The monument was damaged a few years ago, Połacak authorities repeatedly received treatment – that unkempt monument to spoil the city's reputation in the eyes of tourists.
In April it was announced that opened a special account to raise funds for restoration. But representatives of the executive committee assured: if the necessary 80 million will not be able to collect by charitable donations, will be found and other financial opportunities in June, the monument will be restored. More precisely, it will be the main part and the new as to restore crumble letters on it is not possible technologically.
With charity account immediately started having problems: the local authorities for some reason did not care that bank details were published in the media. This was achieved only thanks to the initiative of independent journalists and activists who "bombarded" the executive committee of written requests to stop doing of bank details secret. However, it turned out that it is a joint account, "to strengthen the material-technical base of the enterprise PMC "Housing" Połacak". In other words, the funds from it may go for different purposes.
Meanwhile, in June ended, but the monument is well worth it in the careless condition, despite the promises of the Połacak regional executive committee. No signs of preparation is not visible to the restoration.
In this state it is already two and a half years, despite the fact that Połacak is visited by many tourists, and all they see a genuine attitude towards the conservation of the historic center of the cultural heritage.
The only monument in the Belarusian letter "Ў" was installed in the center of Połacak in 2003, when we celebrate the Day of Belarusian Written Language. On its pedestal – a quote from a poem by Ryhor Borodulin "Ad Eŭfrasińni, ad Skaryny, ad Połacku pačaŭsia śviet". Silumin letters of these lines are damaged. Someone believes that there is "managed for a while" vandals, others – that silumin letters hit by rain and snow, and someone accuses janitors who carelessly cleaned monument. The public has repeatedly appealed to local authorities to repair the monument, but the answers were only that no funds for repairs.
