December 3, in the building of an art space "Tolstoy-7" in the room "Fresh fish" the long-awaited presentation of the project "Viciebsk alphabet". As one of the main instigators of the project, the historian Roman Voronov presented present freshly printed book, which under one cover "Viciebsk alphabet" brought together 32 cultural phenomenon over the city on Vićba and Dźvina.
After processing submitted Viciebsk residents proposals, a jury composed of the Chairman of the Viciebsk branch of the Belarusian Union of Artists Svetlana Barankovskaya, chief curator of the Viciebsk Regional Museum Olga Davidkovskaya, head of the department of history of Belarus Viciebsk Masherov State University Anatoly Dulov, chief curator of the State Archives of Viciebsk region Konstantin Karpekin, candidate of historical sciences Nicholas Brewer, Ph.D. Michael Tsybulsky, chief specialist of the ideological work, Culture and Youth Affairs of Viciebsk Regional Executive Committee Denis Yurchak chose 32 city attractions, which are often cited by voters.
Talking about the details of the project, Roman Voronov noted that the idea of this kind, when the residents themselves identified the most iconic local features are implemented in Belarus for the first time. In addition, the matrix of the Belarusian alphabet allows us to Viciebsk very strong images and select the most worthy, who have contributed to the popularization of the urban space, our culture, our art, our way, our seats...
The most popular phenomena of city residents believe: Marc Chagall, Vasil Bykau, Yehuda Pen, Duke Algirdas, Vitba, Dvina, Viciebsk tram, Viciebsk first power station, town hall, UNOVIS...
Among the main problems encountered when creating the drafters of the alphabet: a small number of tokens on the letters "O", "E", "Ё" and the absence of the words in the letter "Й", "Ў", "Ь", "Ы". Therefore we got out as best they could: Meany Shmyrev was under the letter "Й", as it is present in his name, and the letter "Ш" is most associated with Marc Chagall, whose identity has been the absolute leader of voting.
"Viciebsk alphabet" can be seen and read in electronic form here. But the authors went even further: the text can not only print, distribute, and even sell. However, for this you need to turn to the lord of the Roman layout for printing, which is more significant in size than the electronic version.
In fact, the "Viciebsk alphabet" is a tourist guide, it's a good gift guest...
Roman Voronov: "The alphabet is based on nearly two hundred and fifty inhabitants of Viciebsk proposals, of which the jury chose the most popular. If the same phenomenon repeated the greatest number of times, he, naturally, had an advantage in the selection. We did not take anything from the ceiling, that is the only selection criterion was the number of votes won by one or another phenomenon. In the case where one and the same letter sends two phenomena, we were looking for a reasonable way. Thus, for example, happened in the case of Vasil Bykau and "Slavic Bazaar", aspired to the same letter of the alphabet. In addition, they had a close number of votes of their supporters. Therefore, under the letter "Б" we have placed "Slavic Bazaar", and under the letter "Ў" – Vasil Bykau. And this has a profound symbolic logic: Vasil Bykau – a unique phenomenon of Belarusian literature, as the letter "Ў" – unique grapheme Belarusian alphabet. In addition, this letter is present in the names of the writer."
