Official regional newspaper "Narodnaje Slova" listed names of potential candidates that are close to power, and cost about the rest in one sentence.
The article of July 25, "Applicants have gone to the people," says that "among the candidates was a lot of elected local councils." The text lists the names of ten candidates, in particular, members of the Vitebsk Oblast Council of Teachers of Mathematics, Mikhail Volkov, the Director of Vitebsk, Vladimir Shitko Cadet School, Director of Medical College, Alexander Tsetsokho.
The article also mentions the Vitebsk City Council member Sergei Bohan (deputy head of the Vitebsk branch of Belarusian railway), the chairmen of the Orsha and Polotsk city council deputies Natalia Guyvik and Lyudmila Dobrynin, the leaders of Lepel, Orsha regional executive committees and Sharkovshchina - Peter Shikshnyan respectively, Grandfather and Mieczyslaw Vladimir Morhat.
Particular emphasis is placed on the presence in the list of potential candidates for the deputy chief of the regional KGB Basil Popko.
The rest of the applicants is dedicated only one sentence at the end of the article. Says about them as if in passing: "Among the potential candidates until eight people have found it necessary to declare their party affiliation, so that in the election race is involved in four members of the Belarusian Party of the Left" Just World "and the BPF."
The names of the opponents of pro-government candidates are not called. In this context, this technique is perceived as a blatant violation of the campaign and election laws, because campaign has not yet begun.
Interestingly, the city newspaper "Vitbichi" (the official mouthpiece of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee) in the article that appeared on the same day, and does not name any names. But it says the initiative groups registered 36 candidates for the deputy's mandate, while the "Jahon" gives the number 35.
