Polotsk was so far the only picket to collect signatures for nomination of a candidate for the local council deputies. Signatures gathered for the President of the Free Trade Union of the plant "Fiberglass" Victor Stukov. The picket was organized with the support of the factory workers and the Free Trade Union of the primary factory. The meeting was held on February 5 at 17 pm in the park at Prospect Skarina near the chapel in memory of Polotsk victims of Afghanistan.
On the picket stood booth with information about the candidate, and the participants kept the flag of the Free Trade Union of Belarus. The picket participants appealed to the passing by Polotsk residents subscribe to the proposal for the nomination of a candidate. Some stayed, asked about the candidate's background and talked about their problems. Part citizens evinced a negative attitude towards the election by saying that these elections do not bring anything good. The picket lasted for less than an hour and went without any problems. Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Polotsk on February 4 has received documents collected signatures from 36 initiative groups to nominate candidates in Polotsk district council. A total of forty seats while claiming forty four candidates. In other words, only four polling assumed two candidates, the remaining portions of uncontested. Initiative groups gathered for their candidates from 90 to 160 signatures at a rate according to the law not less than 75. Last day of registration signatures is February 10.
