November 20 in Vorša hosted screening of "Six arguments against the death penalty", presentation of the book "The death penalty in Belarus" and a discussion on "The death penalty – it is murder."
The event was held with the participation of the coordinator of the campaign "Human Rights Activists against the Death Penalty" Andrew Paluda, film director Viktor Tretyakov and sostavitelnitsy books – Polina Stepanenko.
Poluda Andrew said: "The discussion took place against the backdrop of a fresh sentence of death: on this day in Grodno sentenced Ivan Kuleshov. The discussion was very hot. During these meetings often it turns out that some people just do not know, that the death penalty exists in Belarus. During the meeting in Vorša was a lot of controversy, and this is another indicator of the importance of the topic. Such meetings in the regions is extremely interesting. They come all sorts of people – of all ages. One feels that people often do not have enough information on the topic of the death penalty."
The discussion took place in the framework of the initiative "We are Vorša residents, we are Belarusians".
