Viciebsk Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs did not allow human rights defenders to visit the office of temporary settlement (OTS) refugees in Viciebsk and Viciebsk temporary detention facility (TDF). Human rights activists wanted to see how Ukrainians live, waiting for obtaining a residence permit.
Currently, representatives of the Republican human rights public association "Belarusian Helsinki Committee" monitor connected with the execution of the control of the Belarusian state bodies and organizations of the requirements of national legislation and international law in dealing with refugees from Ukraine.
Monitoring is carried out for the collection of relevant information on the socio– economic situation of refugees in Belarus. This information is necessary for human rights defenders in order to be able effectively to provide royalty– free methodological, informational, legal and other assistance needed by displaced persons.
In addition, human rights activists want to get acquainted with the methods and results of the work of government and non– governmental organizations to provide targeted assistance to refugees.
The collected information rights activists had planned to submit to state bodies and institutions, so that they can take steps to address the shortcomings identified in this area of ??the state.
In order to realize these intentions that are important to society and refugees, human rights activist Leonid Svetik appealed to the Interior Ministry for permission to visit the detention center and OTS in Viciebsk.
On the human rights activist said the proposal Deputy Head Yuri Mankov. Outlining the government department position, said Yuri Mikhailovich Leonid Svetsik that unauthorized persons are not legally allowed to visit and monitor the work of the temporary detention and the temporary settlement. Human rights activists just fall within the scope of those outsiders who are not allowed access.
"Referring to the current law, a police officer justified his refusal perfectly, – said Leonid Svetik reaction ATC authorities to his proposal. – Unfortunately, the living conditions of Ukrainian migrants TDF and OTS in Viciebsk remained a mystery to the public. This causes distrust of the police in terms of its compliance with the requirements of the Law of the Republic of Belarus "On Refugees"."
