After an appeal to the Office of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Belarus, Vitebsk region social activists managed to induce the police to act within the legal framework.
January 26, 2015 Jan and Alexander Derzhavtsevs, Oleg Emelyanov, Peter Sarapenya and Alexei Leonenkov apply to the Investigation Committee on the Vitebsk region to inform them of the fact that the return of human remains found near the village of Hayes and later sent to the medical and forensic examination in Minsk but received an official refusal signed by the head of the Vitebsk regional department of SC RB A. Larkin.
Disagreeing with arbitrariness, February 25 community activists filed chairman of the UK for the Vitebsk region complaint on illegal decision of the Vitebsk district chief of SC RB. In the complaint, the applicants drew attention to the fact that the refusal of the UK affects their interests, because after the return of the remains they intend to take part "in the funeral process according to Christian rites".
In late March, the applicants received a response from the Office of the Investigative Committee of Belarus in Vitebsk region signed by the Deputy Head of the Department Igor Metelitsa. As reported in response to the audit found that "the audit senior investigator of the first investigation department of the Vitebsk RA SC (without names) made a decision not to institute criminal proceedings on the basis of paragraph 2 of Article 29 of Part 1 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Belarus". However, due to the fact that the test was carried out incompletely, management control IC Procedure abolished the aforementioned resolution, and the "stuff with the instructions sent to the head of the Vitebsk RA SC to organize additional verification".
But the most important thing: the applicants failed to achieve what they demanded in his first statement, written in January. As stated in the reply: "On the results (of checking) you will additionally notified RA Vitebsk UK, including a decision on the burial".
Thus Vitebsk activists is not the first time proved that their citizenship, perseverance and human indifferent help in defending their rights.
