Activists in Vitebsk seek investigation of Stalin's murder and honoring the memory of the victims. The working title of the public initiative - "Chajsy". According to a member of the CCP BPF Jan Derzhavtseva, the initiative was given the name of the village where last November Vitebsk party members paid tribute to the unknown victims of Stalinist repression.
Then in the forest between the villages of Chajsy and Drikole activists installed wooden crosses that are sanctified Uniate priest, Father Dmitry Grishan, laid wreaths and flowers. Now plans for the Initiative "Chajsy" - refer to the village council for permission to conduct accomplishment of these places.
"We have collected evidence of the inhabitants of the surrounding villages, which in the 1930s were small children, but remember the shots in the woods and stories of adult mass destruction in the forest. Personally, I've heard stories about the local Stalinist executions many years ago. And when I came here with a local resident Sergei Kudinov, who agreed to be my guide, we saw the horror: the pit in the forest, shot through several skulls and human bones lying on the surface, "- said Jan Dzyarzhautsau.
It was his idea, "Chajsy". After all, only the efforts of the public, according to him, can induce the local government to get serious about investigating murders and long commemoration of the victims:
"Brothers Kudinovo 20 years ago in the village council appealed to the question, what kind of shooting going on there. But they were told to keep it out your own business. Last year in November, we wrote a number of statements - in the Regional Prosecutor's Office, the Investigative Committee and the police. These structures are required to initiate a review, as the case Kill people do not have a statute of limitations. Within a month, I got a few almost identical answers, saying that officers visited the site, the information about the remains confirmed, they are examined. We interviewed the investigator Vitebsk region investigative committee, Justice Major Zoya high. From her, we learned that a criminal case and that immediately after our statements remains committed a study to determine the time and manner of death. But in Vitebsk such examination could not hold, and the remains transferred to Minsk. We asked in writing that told us about the result, but were refused - that we are outsiders, and that the report before us, no one is going."
It is in order to access the responsible entities not alone, but on behalf of civil society, and the initiative was created "Chajsy". Participate in the consent of the representatives of various parties and social activists. Start activities decided by collecting signatures on a collective letter to the village council Mazolovskoy to get permission for the improvement of the place of execution and installation of the plaque. The future plans of the initiative "Chajsy" - the creation of an interactive map so that everyone had the opportunity to learn about the history of these places and visit them.
Also decided to continue to collect testimonies of those who remember the Stalinist executions 1930-50-ies. Not only near the villages of Chajsy and Drikole and around the Vitebsk region, or even more - throughout the Vitebsk region. After all witnesses of the events one by one go to a better world, and their memories - this is a very valuable historical material. Someday, those memories will be the basis for the establishment of a memorial to the victims of Stalinism Vitebsk - with such an offer participants of the initiative "Chajsy" are going to apply to the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee.
