Of democratic public unanimity reigns: these elections in the country do not. Nevertheless, most political parties and movements have expressed their intention to participate in the elections to the local councils, which will be held March 23. "Dialogue" in Vitebsk asked known opposition to talk about why they are involved in the current election campaign.
Alexander Kuznetsov: "We participate in the elections because we are a political party. This is the main goal of a political party - to vote. We will certainly participate and shoot, like last time, candidates will not. Hope to win. Long live Belarus!"
Irina Yaskevich: "I am not the first time participate in the elections. And I want to say that maybe someday there will come a time when we are all with you realize that we have done all we can. Something must be done on the ground. Chance to win almost no, but you can talk to people, hear them and draw conclusions - for them and for us."
Leonid Autukhou: "I believe that for the local elections, that at the moment, given the current situation in the country in general and in opposition structures - it makes no sense to participate in this campaign. Because it is the same mistake, which comes on for 20 years. No single candidate. Would be the only candidate - it would make sense to go. As soon as possible we must find, select, buy, and make the only candidate to continue to fight for the year 2015."
Kastus Smolikau: "Regarding the participation or non-participation of representatives of the political opposition in the election, I'm definitely for participation. We have to show people that there are political forces that are different from the government point of view on the situation. They have people who will correct this situation, they have the resources to go from door to door, to participate in elections, to make a normal information products stand in picket lines. Participation - definitely. Boycott these elections is impossible for the simple reason that there is no turnout. Comes three voters on polling stations - and the elections were held. It is always better to do something than to do nothing."
Tatiana Seviarynets: "In elections BCD involved to solve a number of local issues - this is one. And secondly - to familiarize voters with such a party as "Belarusian Christian Democracy" and may accustom people to our activities, because we are always proactive, solve some social problems that some changes have been in our society for a better life."
Ales Halavan: "I believe that the last election campaign showed the inadvisability of participation in the elections with the tactic of boycott. With regard to participation in the current election campaign, our movement (movement "Young Belarus" - Ed.) decided to participate in it, to convey their views to the people, and to try your hand in the format of electoral activity, electoral activity: someone experienced himself as a candidate, someone will experience himself as a member of the initiative group..."
