Viciebsk Regional Court dismissed the members of the Viciebsk regional organization of the party "Belarusian Popular Front" a complaint of violations of the law during the formation of election commissions on election of deputies to the Belarusian parliament – the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus.

During consideration of the complaint in the court of the head of the Viciebsk regional organization of BPF Kastus Smolikau (pictured), who represented one of the party members have imperfections in the legislation that affected the selection of candidates to the Viciebsk regional and district election commissions. He said that the current normative legal acts of very general and vague criteria described on the basis of which it is determined whether a citizen can become a member of the election commission. According to the leader of the local opposition political organization, this fact played into the hands of the leadership of the regional executive committee and members of the Presidium of the Viciebsk Regional Council during the formation of election commissions. This is evidenced by an undeniable fact: the commission were only those candidates who are acceptable to the authorities.

During the trial Kastus rightly indignant inconsistent and illogical actions of the authorities in the selection of the committee members. Puzzled, he asked the lawyers representing the interests of regional authorities, why the electoral commission were representatives of public organizations, which are not even indirectly connected with political activity and party activists, who for decades engaged in political work, left behind. But lawyers do not even try to explain anything oppositionist substantive questions raised by them.

Plaintiff opposition claimed that some candidates for commissioners from public structures were unreasonable advantage over everyone else. To prove his claim, he cited the following fact: a member of the Viciebsk Oblast Executive Committee and also chairman of the NGO "Belaya Rus" Valery Bashmet and member of the Presidium of the Regional Council, Chairman of the Viciebsk regional organization of the Belarusian Red Cross Society Halina Zhelanova – head of agencies, which have nominated their representatives to election commissions, to actively vote for the work in their subordinates. Maybe everyone here is formally and legally, Mr. Smolikau agreed, but in any case it is unfair and unethical in relation to the other candidates, in particular in relation to the candidates from BPF.

The judge of the Viciebsk regional court Alexander Fedyukevich, who led the trial, listened carefully to the local leader of the BPF arguments, but nevertheless took the expected decision in favor of the authorities. He found opposition complaint about violation of their rights unjustified and left her without satisfaction, thereby legitimizing compositions Viciebsk regional and district election commissions formed by the authorities.
