Activists of the public initiative "Chajsy" became aware of another probable place of mass executions of the repressed Belarusian citizens in the late thirties of the last century. As the main witness alleged killings in warm woods near the village Łužasna made 84-year-old resident of Viciebsk Gennady Sokolov (pictured).
Says Jan Dzyarzhautsau, some representatives of the local authorities of Viciebsk region have repeatedly accused the members of the public initiative "Chajsy" because their submissions to the inhabitants of the same name of the village as if can not witness mass executions of the second half of the thirties, because at the time they were children. However, life-affirming, it is the young age at which interest prevails over self-preservation, and encourage children and adolescents to risky and even adventurous actions for which adults are no longer able. Gennady Sokolov recalls: "Here it is – the highest mountain, cliff, and down there at the water's shot. Mountain Łužasna opposite the railway station, maybe a little bit more to the right. Older children told how they went to look at the executions, among them my brother Valentin born in 1929 and his fellow classmates from Łužasna. There were several times during the night, when people came to the car. My brother did not want to, but once you have taken. It was about 1937-1938 years, most likely, the thirty-eighth since the school I went to the thirty-ninth. Then of course, I barely have time for them, under a mountain. They came to the place, sat waiting. Hours we did not have, but about where a car came at midnight. They went out a few people, and for a while were busy down there. Then: groin-groin. Witnesses were not the only ones, but some villagers Łužasna. The rumor went around the neighborhood for a long time. Place something called "cursed". The prisoners were brought from Viciebsk. About shootings in warm woods Jan Dzyarzhautsau said in a private conversation, and 94-year-old resident of Viciebsk Nikolai Petrovich Malashenko, whose family lived in the thirties in the village of Chajsy. At that time, Nikolai was seventeen.
