As elsewhere in the country, in Viciebsk finished gathering phase initiative groups of voters' signatures for the registration of applicants presidential candidates. Thus, the campaign reached a new level, and we can estimate the quality of the teams prospective candidates for the highest state post of the country.
The results of this work, according to the current electoral law, designed to bring the territorial election commissions. And they August 24 started to work.
No exception was the Territorial Election Commission of the Oktyabrsky district of Viciebsk, which at its meeting considered the beginning of the verification of signatures of voters included in signature sheets by members of initiative groups.
The commission meeting began at 11:00 and lasted just over an hour. It was attended by 10 of 13 members of the election commission. Over the course of the meeting observed a seven observers representing the Council of Veterans, trade unions, NGO "Belaya Rus", Belarusian National Youth Union, the human rights organization "Belarusian Helsinki Committee", and one observer was nominated by citizens through signature collection.
The commission was announced information that the TEC received petitions with the signatures of the four candidates. Chief Electoral Committees Kanevalov informed those present that, within the Oktyabrsky district of the nomination of Alexander Lukashenko has collected 21,496 signatures for Sergei Haidukevich and Nikolai Ulakhovich respectively 4826 and 2112 signatures, and for Tatiana Karatkevich only 682 signatures. It should be noted that for the nomination of the last candidate for president election commission members have identified 23 signatures of voters who do not reside in the territory of the Oktyabrsky district – these signatures will not be considered when checking the authenticity of signatures.
Guided by the Electoral Code, members of the commission at the meeting selected for verification of the authenticity of 20% of delivered signatures. It will be checked 4,300 signatures collected for Lukashenka, for Haidukevich – 966, for Ulakhovich – 423, and for Karatkevich – 132 signatures. All petitions with the signatures, which will be verified, were distributed among the members of the election commission.
Open voting members of the TEC determined that authentication of signatures and voter data will be carried out within one week, and then on August 31, at the next meeting of the committee in the presence of observers will be made public test results.
