September 23 members of the Belarusian Association of journalists working in the non-state media, discussed the issues of gender equality in the Belarusian media.
Seminar at the request of the Swedish Media Institute FOJO was conducted by Elena Zherzdeva. The aim of the workshop was to study the basic state of gender in Belarus.
Raised topic, relevant for many European countries and the world has not only scientific but also practical significance, because contributes to the improvement of media environment in any country.
Partners of the Swedish Institute in studying the issue with the Belarusian side made Belarusian Association of Journalists, the Belarusian Union of Journalists, BSU Institute of Journalism, i.e. structures, directly involved in the learn from the European experience.
The seminar was held in the form of an interactive discussion. Journalists discussed the aspects of gender balance on the different sides of journalistic work, including gender sensitive media content.
It was noted that if this issue is regularly discussed in the non-state Belarusian media, it does not rise in the official media.
During the discussion, the journalists came to the conclusion that despite the fact that they are in a certain way to influence the promotion of the idea of gender equality to the masses, they can not afford one radically change the social conservatism in the matter.
