On Monday, March 27, trials were held in Viciebsk over people who were detained the day before, on March 25 and 26, during mass actions that took place in the city.
Public activists, journalists, human rights activists and just citizens who were in the center of the city these days were brought to court. Based on the results of the trials, various decisions were made: from 20 basic values to 15 days of administrative arrest.
In the opinion of independent observers, the court's decisions of the Oktyabrsky district of Viciebsk were made based not on the activity of the participants of the events, but only on the status of the detainees. Otherwise, how can you explain that ordinary citizens, for example Alina Silchanko, Anna Stepuro were given 20 basic (both convicted by the judge Vladimir Tsarikov), and human rights defenders and independent journalists Leonid Svetik (convicted by judge Zhuravkova Tatyana) and Kastus Mardvincau (convicted by judge Grabovskaya Ina) were given On a maximum – for 15 days?
In addition, BNF activist Leonid Autukhov was sentenced to 15 days of arrest (Judge Igor Makarevich), activist of the For Freedom movement Christopher Zhelyapov – 12 days of arrest (judge Boudrevich Sergey), journalist of Radio Ratsiya Artem Sizintsev – 10 days of arrest (judge MikasevaValentina ), human rights activist Irina Tretyakova – 30 base units (judge Zhuravkova Tatyana), citizen of the Republic of Belarus Vlad Komarovsky – 13 days of arrest (judge Makarevich Igor). As for the convicted Asker (judge Mikhaseva Valentina) and Victoria Grom (judge Zharikova Alesya) no information.
All the detainees were punished for violation of Article 23.34 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (violation of the procedure for organizing or holding mass events). A distinctive feature of all trials was the absence of witnesses, and the evidence base was built exclusively on videotapes.
