In Polotsk damaged foundation Borisoglebskii Belchitskogo Monastery of the XII century. This happened during the work for the pipeline in the alley Jubilee. This area is located almost in the center of the ancient city and is part of the protected zone Historical and Archaeological Museum-Reserve Polotsk.
Dig a trench width - 40 cm depth - 1 meter 80 cm. Inside the visible foundation of plinths - red brick, typical of ancient architecture, said local historian Alex Buhovetsky Polotsk.
- Bucket already snagged a small part of the foundation. Presumably, this is a big cathedral Boris and Gleb Monastery. At the side of the trench is visible part of the wall of the ancient temple - said local historian.
According to Alexei Buhovetskogo, earthworks in the historic center of Polotsk go a whole week.
- Despite the outrage of local history buffs, working again today at the site and continue to dig a trench. Wonder who gave permission for the processing of digging, and was approved a project to build a gas pipeline on the historical territory? After all, there had to be carried out archaeological research - says local historian.
At the site of the excavation works only senior fellow at the National Polotsk Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve Alexander Soloviev. He picks up the pieces of the ancient trench plinths.
Boris and Gleb Monastery Belchitsky appeared at the turn of XI and XII centuries on the left bank of the Western Dvina (outside the city of Polotsk at the time). It was founded by Prince Boris Vseslavovich. In the monastery there are four churches: "Great Cathedral" (real name unknown), a church in honor of St. Paraskeva and holy martyrs Boris and Gleb, the temple-trikonh.
Pyatnitska and Boris and Gleb Church, on the assumption of historians, is a creation of architect John Boris and Gleb Monastery monk.
