On May 6, activists of the Viasna campaign "For Clean Air in Navapołacak" Dmitry Solovyov and Tatyana Mastykina collected signatures for the modernization of treatment plants at the chemical plant "Polymir". After collecting signatures, the activists headed towards the plant "Polymir" JSC "Naftan" to take photo and video of the neighborhood, but during the video shooting they encountered an obstacle from the protection of the plant.
Coming out of the entrance, the guard began to grab hold of Tatiana Mastykina, who produced video footage. The guard tried to drag the activist into the territory of the plant. After an unsuccessful attempt, he summoned to the aid of other guards. Their main argument was that it was forbidden to shoot on the territory of the plant, although the activists were near the plant.
Coordinator of the campaign "For clean air in Navapołacak" Dmitry Solovyov, commenting on the event, said:
"We did not enter the territory of the plant and did not even intend to. The street Industrial in the city of Navapołacak is not such. Pipes of the plant are visible even in Polotsk. In this case, proceeding from the logic of the guards, it is generally necessary to prohibit the shooting of the landscapes of Navapołacak. We asked the guards to submit a regulatory act or to show signs prohibiting shooting near the plant territory. For novolochans, the problem of ecology is very urgent, and they all understand that the factories can not be stopped, but the situation can be improved. "
Navapołacak is one of the most polluted cities in Belarus (emissions of harmful substances into the air every year amount to more than 50 000 tons). The territory of Navapołacak and surrounding areas is constantly exposed to negative impacts from industry.
