Vitebsk human rights activists have applied for pickets

August 4 will be two years from the moment when the head of the human rights center "Viasna" Ales Bialiatski was behind bars. International human rights organizations have recognized the well-known Belarusian human rights defender, a prisoner of conscience and call on the authorities of the country of his immediate release. At the conclusion of the second anniversary of Ales Bialiatski arrest Vitebsk his colleagues decided to hold a series of pickets.

Total scheduled for 4 pickets in Vitebsk. Applications for the three of them filed in the district administrations of Paul Levinov, a representative of "Belarusian Helsinki Committee" of Vitebsk and Vitebsk region. Another application sent to the administration of the Railway District of Vitebsk human rights activist Leanid Svecik.

Recall, Ales Bialiatski was arrested on 4 August 2011. He was accused of concealing income on a large scale. November 24 of that year, Judge Sergey Bondarenko announced the verdict: four and a half years of strict regime colony with confiscation of property. Human rights activists, politicians and Western diplomats who attended the trial, condemned the verdict to Ales Bialiatski, noting the political color of the case and that his guilt was not proven.
